A Circle
Okay students, we are going to learn about a circle. In here, you will have a experiment for a circle. Enjoy your journey.
First, lets we determine the circumference of circle.
Step to determine the circumference of circle:
1.      Make some circles into the cartoon paper. Lets see the figure I.
Radius is 1 cm                         Radius is 2 cm                                                 Radius is 3 cm

2.      Measure the circumference of each the circle. You can use some thread to measure them.




You can start from a point P end at the same point P.
3.      Measure the length of each strand of thread with a ruler. Write your answer into the table I.
4.      The length of each strand is the length of each circles’ circumferences.

Second, lets’ determine the diameter and circumference of a can’s base. You can use a step:
1.      Duplicate the circle of the can’s base on a piece of paper.
2.      Crop the duplicate of the can.
3.      The cropped piece of paper is a circle shape

4.      Fold the circle duplicate so that the perimeter of circle is exactly covered each other. The crease line acts as the diameter of circle.
5.      To determine the circumference of circle, you can use step like the first step. Write your result into table I.

Introduction:
As usual, at the end of the topic you will get a test in order to assess your understanding and so do this topic of Geometry. Now, as the final test for the topic of 3D shapes, you will have an exhibition, what will the exhibition looks like? Read the explanation of the task thoroughly.
The Task:
1.      On this final test, you will work on group of 4 and develop a miniature of a shape.
2.      You are allowed to build any shape in term of it is developed from some cubes, cuboids, prisms and pyramids.
3.      Your miniature will be exhibited on Monday, April 2nd, 2012.
4.      In your exhibition, you should explain to the visitors about:
a.       How you could develop its miniature.
b.      What are the 3D shapes that form the miniature
c.       What are elements of every 3D shape and also give the information of the surface area and the volume of your miniature.
5.      Your visitors will have the right to ask some questions about your miniature and they will assess your performance according to the rubric that has been prepared.

How to Draw a Graph of a Quadratic Function:

Before Revision:
How to draw a graph of a quadratic function:
Ø  Choose the quadratic function
Ø  See the function and determine the function is face up wards or face down wards.
Ø  Determine intersection point at x-axis. We can solve it with the step: substitute y = 0 into the function so we get x1 and x2 or we can use the factorization methods to solve the problem.
Ø  Determine the minimum or maximum point. We can use the steps: determine the axis of symmetry of x and substitute x into function. So we can get the y- value.
Ø  Determine the other points {x, y}
Ø  Plot the point {x, y} that you have found into Cartesian diagram.
Ø  Connect each point so we get the parabolic graph.
Ø  Or we can solve it by Geogebra software, please open the Geogebra software.
Ø  Input the function on input box and push the enter button.
Ø  We get the graph.
After Revision:
How to draw a quadratic function:
Ø  Choose the quadratic function. The general form of a quadratic is “y = ax2 + bx + c”.

Welcome Letter


 Dear Students,

Welcome in new semester! How are you all? I hope all of you are OK. Oh yes, how is your holiday? I think it was nice. In this semester, you will learn with me again. I am glad to see you. Let’s be ready to enjoy it in my lesson.
Okay, the first time, I want to introduce my self again. May be some of you do not know yet who I am. My name is Dian Sulistiani. You can call me, Miss Dian. I will teach you in mathematics lesson. I am nice to meet you and how do you do? Please enjoy in our journey.
Do you still remember about our classroom agreement? It is same with the last agreement. RAO, Respect, Active, on time. If you have addition or suggestion for our agreement, we will discuss it in the class.
In this semester, we are going to learn about some topics. They are statistics, probability, series and sequences, and space model of mathematics. We have thirty times meeting. The meetings are divided into some activities. Twenty four times of meetings are teaching and learning processes in our classroom. Three times of meetings, we have project of each subtopics. One of meeting, we will have a tour in PPP-IPTEK (TMII). The last, two times of meetings, we have mid term and final examination.
The first, it is about our teaching and learning processes. I will give you for the materials in every meeting. You can take it in our schools e-learning too. I will upload it and please check it before our meeting. I hope all of you read the materials before we discuss it in the class. You also can search it from anything that is suitable with our topic. Do not worry; I will inform it for you in next session.
The second, it is about our project. I will send email for you about the project guidelines and schedule. This is related with each our topic. You do it independently but you can consult it with me in free times. I think it is fun. I believe all of you can be the best thing in this session. You can do it.
The third, it is about our tour. I will give you schedule for it in next session. I think it is very interesting. Do you like it? We can learn many things in our tour. So, do not forget make reflection about your tour. I will send schedule and this information by email.
The fourth, it is about examination. We have mid term and final examination. They are paper and pencil tests. I hope all of you always enjoy my lesson. Do not worry, we learn together.

Mathematics in My Memoriam

      I was not clever. My teacher ever said to my parents, “Dian, will live in TK before her ages fill the standard ages of Elementary students.” I was very sad. I did not like TK world. I thought that TK world only played and my friends were kids. I did not like it. So, I asked my father to move me in Elementary School. I was cry and threatened that I will not go to school again. So, my father asked my teacher to permit me in Elementary school. Finally, I will go to Elementary school.
       I struggled hard to get a good rank in first grade because if I did not get it, I will go back in TK. I must do anything so I can. The first lesson that I loved was Mathematics. I did not know why I like it. I like numbers, count, geometry and something like that. I counted anything that I saw it. I wrote the numbers in my door. So, if you go to my home in Blora, you can see it. My doors full my numbers in elementary school.        I like mathematics so much but I did not like memorized like PPKn. I hated it. So, my score only high in the mathematics score but other subject were bad. I got thirteen ranks from sixteen students. Oh God, that was so sad but I believed I can do the best thing. I always got the bad rank until the second grade in elementary school. It became my motivation in third grade. I studied hard. I made visual tools to learn mathematics such as one hundred of branch. I used it to count, addition, and subtraction of numbers. That was very interesting. I also studied hard in all lessons. Finally, I got fifth ranks in my class. That was great in my life. My parents and I were proud. That was like a dream.
      My achievement became my motivation. I studied hard until sixth grade in elementary school. My ranking balanced. I became ten top in my class. The last ranking in my elementary school, I got fourth rank. I was proud so much. I loved mathematics more and more. My elementary school was finished. Good bye my elementary school.
      When I was in junior high school, I got D class. I got a new situation. I thought that I must study hard again. I wanted the highest rank in this class. I had mathematics achievement. I still remember, the first topic in mathematics lesson was a set. I heard well for my teacher’s explanation. I studied carefully. The first score in my mathematics examination, I got one hundred. It was a highest score in my class. I was proud. It was my motivation that I can do it in my other subject. Yup, my struggle did not finish until it. My way still long time. I struggled, struggled and struggled. My parents supported me so much. Finally, I got the first rank in my class.
      The next year, I always got three top ranks in my class until third grade in junior high school. My mathematics score always above eighty. I had my unforgettable memoriam of mathematics when I got the perfect score in my National final examination. Yup, I got one hundred in mathematics subject. Wow, that was great. 100 in UN? It was like dreams. My junior high school was finished. Good bye my Junior High School.
       The next school was Senior High School. I got second top rank in list of my cohort. So, I got X2 in this year. I always thought that I must get the highest score. Yup, it was OK but after I was more adult than before, I did not thought highest score. It was only score, right? I think the process is more important than score. It was proven. My score was standard like my friends. But I have studied about the process of lesson. It made me became the different people. I love myself. Finally, my teacher said, “Dian, you will be a representation of school in mathematics Olympiad. I believe you can do it.” Oh my God. I was like a dream. I wanted it from I was in elementary school. I always dreamed about that. I was proud to hear it.
        I studied hard to join the Olympiad. I struggled hard but I have not got the best thing yet. I failed to be winner. I was sad but it just a game. I must try again. I believed I can do it one day. It is OK.
      The next semester, I always got three top ranks in my class. I ever got mathematics score in my report was 96. It is high score, I think. My teacher supported me so much. My friends gave spirit for me, “Okay Dian. You can do it.” I am proud them. My teachers are my motivation. I pay attention so much for their explanation. One day, I imagined that I am mathematics teacher. Wow, that is great. I loved mathematics and science lessons so much. It will be my motivation. I wanted to be a mathematics teacher.
       In 2009, the last semester in senior high school, I had a big problem. I wanted to be teacher so I must be university graduate but my parents have not money for it. So, I tried to join UGM scholarship. I took a pure mathematics subject. But Allah gave other ways for me. I failed for UGM scholarship. I was very sad. It made broken heart for me. I was stress and hated my self. My parents were very sad.
       One day, Allah gave lightness for me. I got up again. I studied hard again. I loved myself again. Although my mathematics in National Examination, I got 60 but I was happy. I want not disappointed again. I believed, I will be great on one day. I tried again for scholarship. I found ITB Untuk Semua Scholarship. I took a mathematics subject but I was not afraid again. I prepared the best thing. If I fail again, that is OK. I waited the announcement well. Finally, Allah gave other ways again. I failed but I still kept spirit. I believed, one day, I will be a mathematics teacher.
       After senior high school, I worked in bakery store. I became cashier. You can know my job, right? Yup, I managed money in the store. I worked carefully. I was happy, I got the mathematics again. I can know how to add and subtract the mathematics in cashier program. I worked hard until one year and I always dreamed that I will go the campus.
       Finally, in 2010, I tried scholarship from Sampoerna School of Education. I was not afraid for fail again. I must keep my spirit. Alhamdulillah, Allah gives the best thing for me. SSE accepted me in mathematics department until now. I met many great people in here. Mathematics is one of my motivations in my life. I studied many experiences and a new method in SSE. I have so many great families that they always support me to be a great people. I love SSE, mathematics, my parents, my brother, my family, my friends, my lecturers, and all people that always support me. Actually, my dreams to be a mathematics teacher will be real in my life soon. Thank you so much, God.
         Thank you for all. Mathematics is fun and unique. Do the best thing but do not ask something be the best. ^_^

Jari-jari kecil itu menggenggam sebuah pena. Sekali dua kali pena itu bergerak sesuai kata hati. Sebentar-sebentar gadis itu menatap kalender. Menatapnya lekat namun terasa aus dan kosong. Secarik kertas telah penuh coretan tangan mungilnya. Ada apa gerangan ?
Mee hanya menuangkan perasaannya. Perasaan yang selama ini dia pendam, tak ada yang tahu kecuali dirinya dan satu lagi, Tuhan. Ditatapnya tulisan itu tajam. Lekat dengan memori yang kian tak berujung itu. Dia membaca ulang dalam hati, yang sunyi.
 “Ketika Mei bertemu lagi. Tuhan, andaikan aku boleh memilih, aku akan memilih untuk tidak ingin memiliki rasa cinta pada satu orang itu. Aku tidak mau menyakiti orang lain. Walaupun aku tahu aku tak bisa melupakan dia, namun aku harus rela, mau tak mau aku harus mengerti, siapa diri aku dan siapa dia. Semua hal itu mustahil untuk terus dipertahankan. Sayangnya cinta tak mau bersahabat denganku. Entahlah, apa maksud semua ini. Aku tak mengerti. Aku takut, sangat takut lebih tepatnya.
Tuhan, ingin aku menangis, ya menangis sejadi-jadinya, agar aku bisa mengerti semua hanyalah mimpi. Tak ada yang perlu dimengerti dan tak ada harapan lagi untukku. Aku menyerah demi sebuah kebaikan. Tanpa harus ada yang tersakiti, aku mundur. Aku tahu, aku harus mundur sebelum semuanya terlambat. Aku tak bisa melanjutkan semua ini. Cukup sudah.
Andaikan waktu dapat berputar kembali. Aku ingin kembali ke waktu pertama kali perasaan ini muncul. Aku akan menghindar darinya. Aku tak akan memberi saran agar dia potong rambut, aku tak akan minta cara dia berbahasa Inggris, aku tak akan menghabiskan waktu hanya untuk berlama-lama bertatap muka dengan dia, aku tak akan pulang larut malam dari kampus di hari Rabu, aku tak akan merubah penampilanku, aku tak akan dandan seperti sekarang, aku tak akan menangis saat UET, aku tak akan mencari tahu apa kesukaannya, aku tak akan kagum dengannya, aku tak akan terkesima saat dia mengungkapkan pendapatnya, aku tak akan membantu dia ngepel, aku tak akan naik sepeda mampang-depok, aku tak akan duduk di paling depan, semua itu hanya untuk dia. Sayangnya aku tak akan pernah mampu merubah waktu.
Waktu terus berganti hari berganti waktu. Aku tak mampu mengubahnya. Tuhan, beri aku kesempatan sekali lagi untuk mengerti. Meiku tak berujung lagi. “
Mee tak memiliki semangat lagi… Air matanya pun tak mau ambil risiko. Dia menangis sejadi-jadinya. Menangis tuk mengurangi luka. Luka yang bertahun-tahun telah menyakiti hatinya.

Tak Dapat Pepe Katakan, Ayah

2009. Angka-angka itu membuat Pepe dilema dalam pemikirannya sendiri. Sebuah hal terberat dalam enam belas tahun usianya. Entahlah…

Menginjak kelulusan dari SMA itu rasanya kehidupan ini berubah drastis. Keinginan untuk kuliah harus pupus di tengah jalan. Semangat yang dulu bergejolak kini mulai redup, redup, dan hampir mati.

Ayah Pepe yang dulu kekar besar kini mulai mengurus. Sejak tiga tahun yang lalu, ayah terserang penyakit yang tak tahu sebabnya. Mulai batu ginjal, sariawan kronis, dan yang terakhir adalah hemoroid. Perih rasanya, di saat ayah merintih menahan penyakit. Tak tega rasanya, sungguh, melihat ayah harus terbaring lemah tak berdaya.

Segala macam usaha telah dikerahkan. Pergi ke dokter spesialis, rumah sakit, orang pintar, kyai, bahkan para peramu obat verbal pun sudah namun tetap saja nihil. Segala barang berharga harus dijual ibu untuk biayanya. Pepe tak bisa membayangkan, bagaimana rasa sakit ayahnya, bagaimana jerih ibunya untuk mencari uang lagi. Dia benar-benar tak bisa menerima semuanya. Kondisi keluarga sangat sulit, dia yang harusnya malu, tak bisa melakukan apa-apa untuk membantu orang tua.

Hal tersebut membuat ibunya harus membanting tulang menghidupi keluarga. Pepe sebagai anak paling tua pun sangat terpukul dan menyerah. Apalagi keinginan untuk kuliah akan putus di tengah jalan karena kurang biaya. Di samping itu, dia masih punya dua adik yang akan melanjutkan sekolah di SMP dan SMA. Pasti tidak akan sedikit biaya yang mereka butuhkan. Rasanya stress tak kuat menerima cobaan ini.

Namun, pandangan dan tekad tiada pernah mati. Berbagai macam cara Pepe cari untuk bisa kuliah. Dia mencoba mencari beasiswa dari internet. Ya, hanya dengan beasiswa, dia bisa membantu meringankan beban orang tua. Pengalaman kegagalan dalam seleksi Beasiswa UGM jalur PBUTM 2009 dan beasiswa ITB Untuk Semua 2009 telah membuatnya tegar. Mungkin keberuntungan belum berpihak padanya. Dia tetap tidak putus semangat. Kegagalan pada dirinya adalah guru yang paling baik dalam hidup. Akhirnya, dia memutuskan untuk menyimpan sejenak impian kuliahnya itu.

Dia coba kembali melamar kerja di sebuah toko roti. Alhasil dia pun diterima. Dari sinilah Pepe mulai mendapatkan pengalaman baru. Pengalaman pertama kalinya bekerja, mencari uang sendiri. Penghasilannya lumayan cukup untuk tidak merepotkan orang tua. Setidaknya dia bisa menghidupi sendiri kehidupan yang sementara ini.

Tahun 2009 terlewati sudah dan kini tahun 2010 menyapa. Suatu hari, dia teringat akan impian-impian yang menjadi tujuan hidup yang pernah tersimpan sementara. Salah satunya adalah kuliah. Dia bertekad untuk bisa kuliah. Niat baik adalah hal yang teristimewa dalam hidupnya. Dia mendapat informasi beasiswa dari salah satu sahabatnya. Ya benar, beasiswa SSE 2010. Kabar baik itu sangat dia perjuangkan. Hingga akhirnya dia pun dinyatakan lolos dan diterima di SSE. Air mata ungkapan rasa syukur. Dengan ini, Pepe hanya ingin mengatakan, “Ayah, ini kado ulang tahun ayah, 13 September 2010. Aku kuliah”. Kehidupan telah berubah.
